St Louis Blues

Contrasting with the brutal face of the Pacific War was the incredible beauty that it took place in.  Amongst those locations was El Nido on Palawan island in the Philippines. Amongst it's regular visitors during 1945 was the P-38 Lightnings of the 18th FG of the 13th Air Force.

 

'St Louis Blues' features it's namesake, piloted by Lt Eugene Sommerich, in quieter more peaceful times. Having completed their patrol Sommerich prepares to rejoin his compatriots for the flight back to base.

 

In the bay below part of the US fleet resides in anchor as the sun starts to set over islands.
